A new trademark rule from the USPTO goes into effect on October 5, 2019. Starting on that day, all filings must be electronic! The goal is for the USPTO to speed up processing times and have fewer submission errors.
Submissions for specimens will also be changing, requiring, 1. the URL and the access or print date of all webpage specimens for goods or services, and/or 2. Requiring label and tag specimens to be shown attached to your goods or their packaging to be accepted as specimens for goods.
So what does this mean for you, the applicant? The new rules force webpage specimens to provide the URL (website link), and label and tag specimens must be shown clearly attached to your goods or their packaging. For example, if you are selling t-shirts, you must have the tag (the ones you eventually tear off) in your specimen submission.
If you have any questions regarding registering for a trademark, or maintaining a trademark, I offer those as part of my services.
